Privacy Policy for SmartGolta
This Privacy Policy explains how SmartGolta (“we”, “us”, or “the App”) handles information when you use the Android application.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information stored only on your device
The following stay on your device (and in any backup files you export), and are not uploaded to our servers for inventory sync:
- Pantry items (names, quantities, categories, expiry dates, storage location, notes)
- Shopping lists and checked items
- Purchase / trip history
- Predictions and related learning / preference data
- Notification history
- App settings (theme, notification preferences, display name, and similar preferences)
- Local backups you create or restore yourself
We do not operate a cloud account or login for SmartGolta.
1.2 Optional usage analytics (Firebase Analytics)
If Usage analytics is enabled in Settings, the App sends anonymous usage events to Google Firebase Analytics to help us understand product usage and improve the App.
Analytics events are designed not to include grocery item names, your display name, or other personal content you type. Typical data includes:
- Event names (for example: app open, screen view, shopping item added, prediction accepted)
- Non-identifying metadata such as category labels, counts, sources, and similar aggregates
- Technical context such as app version/build, Android version, device model, locale, session identifiers, and an anonymous app-generated user id
- Screen names within the App
You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Usage analytics. When disabled, the App stops sending analytics events through our analytics layer.
1.3 Crash and stability data (Firebase Crashlytics)
The App uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose crashes and improve stability. When the App crashes or encounters certain failures, Crashlytics may automatically collect:
- Stack traces and crash logs
- Device and OS information (for example model, OS version)
- App version and related diagnostic metadata
- Anonymous identifiers used by Google to group crash reports
Crash reports are used only to find and fix bugs. They are not used to identify you personally, and they are not intended to include your pantry item names or other household inventory content.
1.4 Permissions
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) |
Show local reminders and prediction alerts you enable in Settings. Notifications are generated on-device. |
| Receive boot completed | Reschedule local notification work after device reboot. |
The App uses network connectivity as required by Google Firebase SDKs to transmit analytics (when enabled) and crash reports. We do not use notifications or boot permission to sell ads or track you across other apps.
1.5 Information we do not intentionally collect
- Name, email, phone number, or postal address for an account
- Precise location
- Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access
- Payment card details (no in-app purchases today)
- Grocery item names or your display name in analytics events
2. How we use information
We use on-device data to provide App features (pantry, shopping, predictions, reminders).
We use Firebase Analytics (when enabled) to understand which features are used, improve reliability and product design, and measure engagement in aggregate.
We use Firebase Crashlytics to detect crashes and errors, prioritize and fix bugs, and improve App stability.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share limited technical data with:
- Google Firebase / Google LLC — as the processor for Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, subject to Google’s terms and privacy practices.
Your on-device inventory data is not uploaded to our servers for sync. If you export a backup file, you control where that file goes.
Third-party privacy information:
4. Data retention
- On-device data remains until you delete it in the App, clear App data, uninstall the App, or overwrite/delete backups you manage.
- Firebase Analytics data is retained according to your Firebase/Google Analytics project retention settings and Google’s policies.
- Firebase Crashlytics crash reports are retained according to Google Firebase retention practices.
5. Your choices and controls
- Disable Usage analytics in Settings at any time.
- Revoke notification permission in Android system settings.
- Uninstall the App to remove local App data from the device (subject to any backups you created elsewhere).
- Contact us (see below) with privacy questions or requests.
Because inventory data is stored locally and we do not operate a user account system, we generally cannot retrieve or delete your pantry data from our servers — it is not stored there. For analytics/crash data processed by Google, you may also use applicable Google privacy tools where available.
6. Children’s privacy
SmartGolta is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. International processing
Firebase services are operated by Google and may process data in the United States or other countries where Google maintains facilities. By using the App, you acknowledge that diagnostic and (if enabled) analytics data may be processed outside your country of residence, subject to applicable law and Google’s safeguards.
8. Security
We design the App so sensitive household inventory stays on your device. Transmission of analytics and crash data uses the security measures provided by Google Firebase SDKs and Google’s infrastructure. No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top will be revised when material changes are made. Continued use of the App after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
